NOVA Tuff Base is a high-quality gypsum undercoat plaster specially formulated for smooth, dense, or low- to medium- suction backgrounds where standard undercoat plasters may not adhere adequately. It is designed to provide excellent workability, easy spreading, and smooth finishing before applying a 2 mm skim coat of finishing plaster.

Applications

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS• Plasterboards

- Gradually add NOVA Tuff Base to 13–14 litres of clean water per 25 kg bag using clean mixing equipment
- Ensure mixing equipment is clean, as contamination from previous mixes can affect setting time and strength
- Mix by hand or with a mechanical mixer until smooth and lump-free
- Avoid over-mixing, as this may reduce workability and adhesion
On Plasterboard
- Pre-fill gaps > 3 mm
- Reinforce joints with Joint Tape
- Apply plaster once joint treatment has stiffened (not fully dried)
- Fix angle beads using plaster dabs—not dry fixing
- Build plaster to a maximum thickness of 8 mm
- Rule the surface level and scratch lightly to form a key
On Precast Concrete
- Apply a picking-up coat and allow to set (not dry)
- Apply a floating coat 8 mm thick, up to a total system thickness of 25 mm
- Scratch between coats
On Expanded Metal Lath
- Apply a picking-up coat, forcing plaster through the mesh
- Build up the floating coat to a maximum of 11 mm from the face of the lath
Finishing
- Must be finished with a 2 mm finishing plaster
- Do not paint, decorate, or tile directly onto undercoat plaster
- The product should be stored in a cool, dry place and should be used within 12 months of the date of manufacture
- Do not apply on frozen surfaces
- Protect freshly applied plaster from rapid drying in hot or windy conditions
- Do not expose the set plaster to temperatures above 49°C
- In hot or dry climates, protect from rapid water loss
- Keep out of reach of children
